Goulding & Wood Pipe Organ Builders — Open House | Indianapolis, Indiana

Goulding & Wood Pipe Organ Builders of Indianapolis recently hosted an Open House at their shop, showcasing the refurbished and reconfigured pipe organ for the Sisters of Our Lady of Grace Monastery, Beech Grove, Indiana.

The instrument, originally built in 1981, was given a new life through the skilled work of the Goulding & Wood team. While the original pipework and windchests remained in good condition and were carefully refurbished and reconfigured, a beautiful new console was designed and built to replace the aging original, which had become difficult to maintain due to unavailable parts and outdated wiring.

The project also features a newly designed façade, developed in collaboration with Browning Day Architects of Indianapolis. The organ will be installed in the Sisters’ new monastery chapel, where it will continue the Benedictine community’s centuries-long tradition of sung liturgical prayer accompanied by the pipe organ.

The Open House was well attended by colleagues, families, and special guests — including Sr. Marie T. Racine, OSB, Director of Liturgy, and organist Theresa Morphew, who had the opportunity to play the instrument during the event, delighting all those in attendance.
