December update

It’s been a busy few months at Goulding & Wood! Opus 50 is moving along every day. The console is ready to be stained, the antiphonal cases are nearly complete, the main chests are done and the pipes are being racked. The chest are starting to get their primary valves installed, the unit chests are taking shape, and the front cases will soon be underway.

Meanwhile, service work continues for a few more weeks, including a quick trip to some of our instruments in North Carolina and Virginia. Still lots of reeds to visit before Christmas!

David Sims at Loyola

G&W employee David Sims is honored to kick off the fall season of monthly organ recitals at Op. 47 this Sunday, September 16th, at 3:00 pm. After years of traveling to Chicago for quick tuning trips, he’s looking forward to spending some quality time on the other side of the console getting to actually play. Music will include pieces by Walther, Bach, Rorem, and Howells. See the entire program here, and see you in Chicago!

Indiana Landmarks on Diapason Cover

We are pleased that our work at the Indiana Landmarks Center was featured on the cover of the August, 2012 issue of The Diapason. It was a gratifying project to undertake, and we are glad that the article and pictures are now available to a wider audience. Thanks to Diapason editor Jerome Butera for the opportunity!

Rhonda Sider Edgington at Loyola

Summer sounds continue...

Loyola University continues its series of monthly organ recitals with nationally-known organists during the summer months. Come hear Rhonda Sider Edgington perform Sunday, August 19th at 3 pm (CDT). Her
program is called: “It Don’t Mean a Thing: Finding jazz and swing influences in organ music” and features works by Alain, Albright, Bach, Bolcom, and Vierne.

We look forward to hearing her in Chicago!

POE-A tours G&W shop

On Wednesday, July 25, the students at the AGO Pipe Organ Encounter-Advanced camp, held in Bloomington, IN, toured the G&W shop during their day trip to Indy. They saw the wind chests, reservoirs, casework and console wiring for Opus 50 (Lexington) around the shop, and got to see voicer Brandon Woods voice a trumpet pipe for Lexington.

They survived the 100+ degree temperatures that day; maybe that’s why they asked so many questions in the air conditioned voicing room!

AGO 2012 National Convention

We had a great turnout at the 2012 AGO National Convention in Nashville, TN, July 1-8. The weather was blazingly hot, but we had a good week of meeting new friends of the shop, hearing recitals, and had a great dinner with G&W organists. We also got to preview some of the new systems from Solid State Organ Systems. Very cool things are on the way!

Goulding & Wood is pleased to announce our Opus 50!

Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Lexington, Kentucky, will soon be home to our latest organ. The organ will feature 4 manuals, 59 ranks, and replaces the church's current Holloway organ, which has served the congregation faithfully for 42 years despite outdated electrical systems and a very modest stop list. The new organ will offer vastly expanded tonal resources for congregational singing, choral accompaniment, and solo literature.
